Joondalup’s older streets went in during the 1980s and 1990s. The pipework under them is now at the age where roots find the joints, and the original hot water systems are reaching the end of their service life. What Affects the Cost of a Plumbing Repair

What to Do Before Your Plumber Arrives
Turn the water off at the meter first. Until the water is off, a burst pipe or hose will keep emptying onto the floor. After an hour of that you could be replacing flooring and skirting as well as paying for the plumbing repair. If you have not turned off a water main before, you can follow the Water Corporation’s guide on how to turn off your water main.
Then switch the power off. Where water has reached a power point, a light fitting or an appliance, turn the power off at the board, because water in contact with live wiring can give somebody a serious shock. Leave it off until one of our plumbers has checked it.

How do I know if a leak is under the slab?
You will usually notice a warm patch on the floor, the sound of running water with every tap closed, or a water bill that has risen with nothing in the house to explain it. If the meter is still turning after you have closed the stop tap at the house, water will be escaping before it reaches you. A leak detection specialist that we work closely with finds the exact point, and because of that relationship we can offer that part of the job at a reduced flat rate. Once the leak has been found, we carry out the repair at that point rather than opening up the floor to look for it.
How often should flexible plumbing hoses be replaced?
Every five years. Insurers generally treat five years as the reasonable service life of a braided hose, and a hose that has passed five years can look sound and still fail. A burst hose can release up to 1,500 litres an hour into the room it sits in, so it costs substantially less to replace your hoses on a five-year cycle than to deal with the water damage.
Can you clear a blocked drain without digging up the garden?
Usually, yes. We will put a camera down the line first so we can see what is causing the blockage and where it sits. Most blockages clear with a cable or with high pressure jetting, and neither of those needs excavation. Tree roots are one of the common causes of blocked drains, and where roots have broken the pipe itself, the repair will need access to that section.
Do I need to be home when the plumber comes?
Somebody will need to be there to let us in and to approve the repair once we have found the cause. If you cannot be there yourself, arrange for someone else to be, and tell us who to speak to about the work.
Who pays if the blockage turns out to be at the sewer junction?
The Water Corporation states that clearing a blockage within your wastewater property connection, up to the sewer junction of its mains, is the property owner’s cost, and it takes responsibility past that junction. A camera inspection will show where the blockage sits, so you will know which side of that line the job falls on before we start.
